Saujan wants to be a social worker when he grows up. Does this sound like the dream of any fifth grader you know? His reason is this: Thanks to a social service organization, he got the chance to go to school.
Saujan’s story is similar to that of many children supported through the DDHCFN scholarship program. His father left home when he was a little boy. His mother, a seamstress, did her best to support Saujan and her elderly mother. But when she developed a problem with her eyesight she was forced to close her small tailor shop. Their only source of income disappeared overnight. She became desperate.
Shanti Nepal, one of DDHCFN’s partner organizations, reached out to help the family. Scholarship funds have ensured that Saujan’s education will be covered through high school.
Shanti Nepal also offered his mother a position as cook and cleaner, which she gladly accepted.
The arrangement has been a blessing to everyone involved.
Saujan’s smile says it all.
